Hey guys,
This is a link to a pretty short and to the point description of some major points in Obama's budget.

Cap and Trade isn't being eliminated, it's just not counted as a source of revenue in the budget. It certainly looks like it's facing resistance, but if you click on the link about it in the original article it seems to say cap and trade will still exist but that it will do so behind the scenes and with less strict regulations to prevent as much criticism about it. Anyway, I'm not sure how to take the whole budget thing...it's a lot of money and despite my support of some of Obama's ideals I'm pretty skeptical of others and ultimately I'm skeptical of anything anyone in politics SAYS at this point and waiting to see what is actually done. The country is at an interesting place right now and it will be very interesting to see how the next 2 or 3 years play out. If Obama doesn't start actually doing something I think whoever the Republican nominee is (unless it's someone like Palin who is a very polarizing figure) will be able to do exactly what Obama did last year to get elected...ride the wave of discontent pointing out everything the previous administration did wrong and use lofty idealist rhetoric that gives people hope.
ReplyDeleteand further to your thought... what will it take for us to get to the point where we demand, and/or can actually expect accountability from our public "servants"...? can we have a "do-over"? (if so, how far back would we have to go..?!) there should be outrage across political party lines when someone blatantly "uses" the public opinion to get elected, then almost immediately fails to deliver/follow through on any of the promises...
ReplyDelete(not just Obama, but, ANY politician) granted,
there are some issues that can be blamed on the status of the government, but, there are also some things that could still be initiated, simply to start to make a change... if someone were willing to take the risk...
Our country just seems so deep into so many things. Deep in debt. Deep in war. Deep in political rancor. I think part of the problem is that unless a large portion of the population is experiencing, on a personal level, the consequences of decisions being made (i.e. The Great Depression or World War II) that there will never be that fundamental desire to push through change. There is enough of a disconnect that people become upset or outraged but they never take it to the next level of becoming an activist. A scary thought: maybe that is how those in government want it. It seems the majority of the population is so disinterested with what is going on that they are content to sit cast more votes for American Idol than for their public officials. If all the people do is speak out and don't act upon their beliefs then politicians are given enormous freedom to do whatever they want.
ReplyDeleteok... trying not to be cynical, here, I REALLY hope Obama will follow thru on this effort to discuss the health bill; (on camera)with both sides. At that point, the public will at least hear/see what are purported to be the "facts" of the bill & can make informed decisions about how our reps then vote.
ReplyDeletethat said: I do have to wonder why this wasn't the initial approach? It would have been a lot easier to believe the intent was "real" had he/they not been trying so hard to force it thru on Christmas Eve...
